The New York Jets opened their 2026 campaign with a thorough 23 – 10 thrashing of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. At halftime the Jets had built a 10 – 3 lead, which they extended to 23 -3 in the fourth quarter before the Titans scored a meaningless late touchdown in garbage time.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith was efficient and effective in his triumphant return to a Jets team that gave up on him more than a decade ago. The Jets three 2026 first round picks all got in on the fun. 2nd overall pick David Baily contributed a sack of Cam Ward, 16th overall pick Kenyon Sadiq ran the ball in for the Jets’ first touchdown of the season, and 30th overall pick Omar Cooper gave the Jets an impressive 30 yard catch and run on the opening drive, pinballing off multiple defenders before exiting the game with an ankle injury. The win gave the Jets a 1-0 record to start the season. It was nice to see after the dreadful uncompetitive 3-14 Jets season of 2025.

Now the Jets head home to take on the Green Bay Packers in their home opener next Sunday. A home victory would give the Jets a 2-0 record out of the gate for the first time since 2015 and would give a Jets fanbase starved for something positive hope that the Jets might finally be building something solid.

The Packers present a significantly tougher challenge for the Jets than the Titans did. They have been a playoff team six of the last seven years and 14 of the last 17. The Packers opened the 2026 season with a 39 – 22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Jordan Love was sacked four times and turned the ball over twice. The Vikings shut down a Packers running game sorely missing starting running back Josh Jacobs and harassed Love all day. The Packers will be looking to rebound against this young Jets team and avoid the dreaded 0-2 start for the season.
