Jazz guard Keyonte George finalized a five-year, $157.5MM rookie scale contract extension on Friday. The deal, which has a base value of $155MM and features $500K in annual incentives, begins in 2027/28 and runs through ’31/32. It doesn’t include a player or a team option.

According to Shreyas Laddha of The Salt Lake Tribune, George will earn approximately $28.7MM in the first season of the extension, with 4% annual raises rather than the maximum allowable 8%. The Jazz wanted a somewhat flatter structure because the salary cap has risen by 5-6% in recent seasons, Laddha explains.

It sounds like the incentives in George’s new contract would all be considered unlikely right now. A team source tells Laddha that George’s deal features five different $100K bonuses, with one tied to games played (65 regular season games; he played 54 last season) and the other four based on playoff series wins.

Laddha also hears George’s extension includes a “small bonus for team defense while he’s on the court,” though he doesn’t specify the requirement or how much the incentive is worth.

That same team source informed Laddha that Utah and George had been discussing the extension for a few months. The 22-year-old guard, who will earn $6.56MM this season in the final year of his rookie scale contract, confirmed as much at Saturday’s press conference.

“Going through the process, I knew where I wanted to be,” George said. “We were able to have some conversations throughout the whole summer and come to an agreement. … It was no doubt in my mind; [there] was no pushback from anybody.

“This is my second family. I feel like Utah is my second family. So, signing here, extending here, it was honestly a no-brainer.”

Laddha shares more sourced details on why the Jazz felt comfortable making a significant commitment to George, who had a breakout 2025/26 season, having averaged 23.6 points, 6.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 54 appearances (33.1 minutes per game). The team hopes to “level up” this season with an eye on its first playoff berth since ’21/22, Laddha adds.
