The final play of Sunday night’s game saw Falcons backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throw an interception to seal the Ravens’ 30-23 overtime win while starter Michael Penix watched from the sideline with a rib injury.
Penix came out for one play late in regulation after taking a big hit from Ravens linebacker Tavius Robinson, but came back in to throw an incompletion before the Falcons punted on the final play of the fourth quarter. The Ravens got the ball first in overtime and Tagovailoa re-entered the game after Baltimore’s touchdown with 2:57 left on the clock.

After the loss, Penix said he thinks he could have stayed in if the Falcons got the ball first but “it just started to get worse and worse as we were sitting there.” Due to that, Penix “did not feel like I was going to be able to give our team what we needed to be able to win that football game because of the pain that I was feeling.”
Penix will have more testing done on the injury, but said he does not think it is going to be a long-term absence.
“Knowing me, I am going to be ready to go next week because I’ve sat out enough in my career,” Penix said, via the team’s website. “I am going to do everything I can in the training room to make sure I get back to where I want to be. . . . I will work my tail off to make sure I’m back out there on that field.”
Penix was 19-of-32 for 240 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons’ first loss since he returned to the lineup in Week 3. He’ll try to be back out on the field against the Bears next Sunday.
