Former Chicago Bears fullback Matt Suhey has passed away at the age of 68, according to NBC Chicago.

Suhey was the starting fullback on the 1985 Super Bowl championship Bears team. He scored the first touchdown of Super Bowl XX, helping lead the way to the Bears’ eventual 46-10 victory over the New England Patriots.

Suhey also served as the lead blocker for Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton for most of his career. The two famously developed a very close bond during those years.

Suhey played college football for Penn State University, rushing for 2,818 yards and 26 touchdowns from 1976 to 1979. He was selected by the Bears in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft.

Suhey went on to play 10 seasons in the NFL, all of them spent in Chicago. He totaled 2,946 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns during his NFL career. Suhey also had 2,113 receiving yards on 260 receptions over the course of his career, including five receiving touchdowns.
