In 2020, Carter was one of 12 true freshman to see game time at the University of Virginia. He played in nine games, recording 14 tackles with a half tackle for loss and a half sack. He earned a starting job in 2021, beginning 10 contests and playing in all 12 games that season (23 tackles, two tackles for loss, pass breakup).
From 2022-2024, Carter started all 34 games he played in, amassing 97 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, a pass breakup, and a fumble recovery.
In his final season with the Cavaliers, Carter started all 14 games, finishing with 30 tackles and one tackle for loss.
After going undrafted in 2026, Carter was signed by the Chargers as a UDFA.

Carter brings a ton of starting experience after a six-year collegiate career. He did show progress with every new season but showed to be much more of a run-stopper than a pass rusher. While that’s not the flashier skillset, it could help him find a spot on the practice squad if he’s able to eat double-teams and close gaps for his rushers around him.
Carter went six seasons in college without truly having any sort of breakout season. His stats were fairly static in all five of his starting season which gives a decent amount of confidence that he’s likely found his ceiling as a player.

The defensive tackle room is stuffed to the brim after all of the Chargers’ additions this offseason. They drafted Nick Barrett in the fifth round and signed veteran Dalvin Tomlinson. There are now 10 total interior lineman on the team and the expectation is that they’ll keep roughly six bodies (starters and backups for all three spots in their base defense). It also doesn’t help Webb that one of the other UDFAs is a similar defensive tackle with a similar skillset to his.
