Veteran NBA guard Lindy Waters III is headed overseas for the 2026/27 season, having signed with the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association (Instagram link).

Waters, 29, went undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2020 and made his NBA debut in 2022 for the Thunder. The 6’5″ guard has been in the league for each of the past five seasons, making 196 regular season appearances for Oklahoma City, Golden State, Detroit, and San Antonio during that time and averaging 4.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per night.

Waters signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Spurs last July and appeared in 40 regular season contests and nine playoff games as a reserve over the course of the 2025/26 season. However, he logged just 7.1 minutes per game, the lowest mark of his NBA career.

Waters became an unrestricted free agent on July 1 when his contract with the Spurs expired.

The Ducks are coming off a 29-13 season in ’25/26, which was good for fourth place in the 20-team CBA. Beijing was eliminated in the semifinals of the playoffs by the eventual champion Shanghai Sharks, so Waters will be looking to help push the team over the top and win its first championship since 2015 this coming season.
