Bulls point guard Josh Giddey is a “player of interest” for the Timberwolves, multiple league sources tell Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News and SKOR North (Twitter link).
Upgrading the backcourt by adding another ball-handler appears to be an offseason priority for the Timberwolves, who lost starting guard Donte DiVincenzo in the playoffs to an Achilles tear that will sideline him for most or all of 2026/27. Reporting earlier today indicated that Minnesota was also eyeing Celtics guard Derrick White and is “very motivated” to re-sign free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu.
Giddey certainly isn’t the defender that White is, but he has excellent size for a point guard (6’7″) and is a talented play-maker who has improved as a shooter in recent years. In 54 games for Chicago in 2025/26, the former sixth overall pick averaged 17.0 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.3 rebounds in 32.1 minutes per contest, with a .448/.364/.763 shooting line.
It remains unclear whether the Bulls view Giddey as a trade candidate or a potential long-term keeper. He’s just 23 years old, is on an affordable multiyear contract, and was one of their most productive players last season, but Chicago has a new head of basketball operations (Bryson Graham) who may not be attached to some of the players acquired by the old regime.
It also remains to be seen what the Timberwolves would be willing to offer for potential targets like White or Giddey, but – among their higher-paid players who could be salary-matching pieces – they may be more inclined to part with Julius Randle than Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid, or (especially) Jaden McDaniels.
Giddey signed a four-year contract with the Bulls as a restricted free agent last offseason, so he still has three years and $75MM left on that deal.
