Jason Sanders will be the Jets’ kicker when the regular season begins on Sunday against the Titans.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said today that Sanders will kick in Week 1, but going forward Sanders will continue to compete with Blake Grupe to win the kicking job. Sanders has been with the Jets since June, while Grupe just signed last week.

“Jason will kick this week. He’s had most of the reps,” Glenn said. “Grupe, I want to make sure he gets a solid chance. He just got here last week. He hasn’t had a lot of chances to get a lot of work with [long snapper Thomas Hennessy and holder Austin McNamara]. I want to make sure I give him the proper chance for the competition, so I want to let this thing play out.”
Sanders kicked for the Dolphins from 2018 to 2024. He missed the entire 2025 season with a hip injury.
