The Heat formally signed free agent forward Ian Schieffelin on Friday, the team announced in a press release. While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, reporting last month indicated that Schieffelin would be signing a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deal with Miami.
Schieffelin played four years of college basketball at Clemson from 2021-25, having averaged 12.4 PPG, 9.4 RPG and 2.7 APG on .495/.341/.741 shooting in 34 games (33.4 MPG) as a senior in 2024/25. He was convinced by Dabo Swinney — a friend of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra — to try football last season as a graduate senior and played eight games as a tight end for the Tigers.
“It’s a huge blessing. I mean, not many people can really say that they’ve done kind of what I’ve done over the past year,” Schieffelin said in July. “It’s been just a blessing getting back into basketball and just the Heat organization taking a chance on me for Summer League and just giving me an opportunity. It’s just a blessing to be here. This whole journey has been amazing.”
Schieffelin most recently played five games for the Heat at the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer Leagues, averaging 8.4 PPG and 3.6 RPG on .467/.429/1.000 shooting.
A handful of reporters in South Florida — including Ira Winderman of The Sun Suntinel — indicated that the Heat had reached an Exhibit 10 deal with Ezra Ausar, who went undrafted earlier this year out of USC and subsequently played for Miami’s Summer League team. Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald confirms the Heat reached a deal with Ausar, but that transaction is still pending.
Former Kansas wing Tre White, who impressed during Summer League action, also had a tentative Exhibit 10 agreement with the Heat. However, he was recently granted a temporary restraining order as he seeks to play a fifth college season and has been cleared to practice with Kansas, the men’s basketball program confirmed today (via Twitter).
The NCAA plans to appeal that ruling, Jackson notes, but White has made it clear his priority is to return to the college ranks if he’s able to do so.
The Heat opted against adding Gabe Vincent to their camp roster, according to Jackson, who suggests D’Angelo Russell and Ryan Nembhard are unlikely targets for Miami as well. Russell was waived by Memphis on Friday, while Nembhard is expected to be cut by Charlotte.
