The Heat have claimed Bez Mbeng off waivers and will sign him to an Exhibit 10 contract, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. Mbeng is expected to take part in training camp practices with the Heat next week.

The Hornets placed Mbeng on waivers over the weekend.

Charlotte signed the former Yale shooting guard earlier this month on an Exhibit 10 deal, though his G League rights are still controlled by the Sioux City Skyforce.

The 6’4″ guard played 15 games for the Jazz last season as a rookie, averaging 8.1 points, 4.1 assists to just 1.5 turnovers, and 2.3 steals per game, though he only shot 19.4% on three-pointers and 64.0% from the free throw line.

He spent the bulk of last season with the Skyforce. He averaged 6.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 49% from the field and 26.7% on 1.8 three-point attempts per game in 41 appearances.

This addition bumps the Heat’s camp roster to 19 players. Miami is expected to sign at least one more player to an Exhibit 10 deal before the start of training camp.

Mbeng will likely end up back with the Skyforce, where he’ll be eligible for a bonus up to $91K if he stays with the club for at least 60 days.
