Former first-round pick Keon Johnson has signed with the Hawks, the team announced in an email.

No contract details were released, but it’s likely to be an Exhibit 10 deal with a training camp invitation. That would make Johnson eligible to earn a bonus worth up to $91K on top of his G League salary if he gets waived and spends at least 60 days with Atlanta’s affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks. Johnson is ineligible for a two-way contract because he has already played four NBA seasons.

The 24-year-old shooting guard was selected by New York with the 21st pick in the 2021 draft and traded to the Clippers on draft night. He was shipped to Portland in the middle of his rookie year and stayed there through the end of the 2022/23 season.

He was sent to Phoenix in the fall of 2023 as part of the Damian Lillard trade, but was waived before the season began. He joined Brooklyn on a two-way contract later than year, then got his first significant playing time during the 2024/25 season, posting 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 79 games (56 starts) with .389/.314/.770 shooting numbers.

The Nets waived him last September and he joined the Maine Celtics in the G League, where he averaged 16.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 15 games.

Atlanta has 14 players with fully guaranteed contracts, plus Mouhamed Gueye with a non-guaranteed deal. The Hawks have all three of their two-way slots filled, plus Isaac McKneely on an Exhibit 10 contract, so they still have a roster opening available after adding Johnson.
