Fischer's Latest: Knecht, Kings, Pedulla, Raptors, KPJ, More
After clearing waivers on Wednesday, former Lakers wing Dalton Knecht is drawing interest from a handful of teams as a potential two-way target, Jake Fischer said during his latest live stream for Bleacher Report (video link).
According to Fischer, the Kings, Timberwolves, and Raptors are among the teams believed to be considering Knecht for a two-way deal. Not coincidentally, those are the only three teams in the NBA that currently have a two-way slot open, so none of them would need to waive anyone to add the 2024 first-round pick.
The Kings also continue to mull their options at point guard in the wake of Ben Simmons’ season-ending Achilles tear, Fischer notes, so it’s possible they could use their open two-way spot to add more backcourt depth.
Here’s more from Fischer:
- Point guard Sean Pedulla is another player who is in the mix for the Kings’ last two-way contract, according to Fischer (Twitter link), who says that Pedulla, Knecht, and 2025 second-round pick Micah Peavy are receiving consideration from “several overlapping teams,” with the Raptors eyeing all three.
- Kevin Porter Jr. received some interest from the Nuggets before being waived by Milwaukee on Monday, says Fischer (video link). Fischer expects Porter to prioritize playoff teams in unrestricted free agency and believes he’ll hold some appeal as a minimum-salary target. However, it’s worth noting that adding a 15th man would increase Denver’s projected tax bill by over $16MM, so the Nuggets may have had more interest in acquiring Porter in a trade that sent out Zeke Nnaji and his $7.47MM salary than they would in adding him to their roster as a free agent — that’s just my speculation though.
- Although they were both victims of roster crunches ahead of the regular season, Fischer believes there’s a decent chance that Dwight Powell rejoins the Mavericks and Pat Connaughton returns to the Hornets at some point, even if it doesn’t happen until after the trade deadline.
