CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Wisconsin company set to officially open its new Cedar Rapids manufacturing facility has already announced a major expansion.

Sub-Zero announced a $196 million dollar expansion plan to its Cedar Rapids facility, a move expected to add 312 new jobs. The company is slated to cut the ribbon on its 600,000 square foot facility on 6th Street SW. The expansion will add another 230,000 square feet and bring the total employment at the location to more than 500.

“This expansion is a major win for Cedar Rapids and a testament to the strength of our workforce and business climate,” Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell said in a news release. “Sub-Zero’s continued investment in our community reflects the confidence global manufacturers have in Cedar Rapids as a place to grow, innovate, and create high-quality jobs.”

The Madison-based Sub-Zero makes high-end kitchen and household appliances.

“Cedar Rapids has proven to be the right place for our people and our business,” said Scott Wareing, senior vice president of operations and product design for Sub-Zero. “This expansion reflects our long-term commitment to the community, our confidence in the local workforce, and our focus on building high-quality manufacturing capabilities that support Sub-Zero’s growth for decades to come.”

An exact timeline for the expansion has yet to be announced.

The expansion adds to a growing area of manufacturing, industrial and warehouse facilities popping up on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. Economic leaders say this has been a focus for development, given the area’s easy access to transportation from the airport and Interstate 380.
