ESPN’s Tim Bontemps is in advanced talks with the Hawks to join their front office, Front Office Sports’ Ryan Glasspiegel and Alex Schiffer report.
Bontemps has been employed by ESPN as an NBA reporter since 2018 after previously working in the print media for the Washington Post and New York Post. If he accepts the position, Bontemps would be working under Onsi Saleh, who was promoted from general manager to president of basketball operations and signed a long-term contract extension with the franchise in May.
There have been a number of reporters or analysts who have worked for NBA or college teams before or after their stint with the network. John Hollinger previously left ESPN to work for the Grizzlies and is currently writing for The Athletic. ESPN’s cap expert, Bobby Marks, previously held a front office job with the Nets. Adrian Wojnarowski departed the network to work for his alma mater, St. Bonaventure.
Kevin Pelton recently left ESPN to work for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, who are moving to Houston, In 2021, the Thunder hired Royce Young, who had previously covered the franchise as an ESPN reporter, to their basketball operations department.
