Cowboys vs. Giants inactives, news, live updates: Malik Nabers active for Sunday Night Football in Week 1

Welcome to the first Sunday Night Football matchup of the year, as the Dallas Cowboys visit the New York Giants for a primetime NFC East showdown.

The Giants are entering a new era as a franchise under head coach John Harbaugh, who will look to right the ship after three consecutive losing seasons. Second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart will be at the helm once again after tossing 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in his rookie campaign. The biggest question will be the health of star wideout Malik Nabers, who’s been working his way back from a season-ending knee injury last season. He’s officially active for this contest after being deemed a game-time decision, though how much he’ll play is unclear.

The Cowboys are back for their second season under head coach Brian Schottenheimer, unfortunately without Pro Bowl offensive lineman Tyler Smith, who landed on IR last week after left thumb surgery. It marks a key season for 2025 breakout receiver George Pickens, who’s playing on the franchise tag this year after the two sides were unable to agree on a long-term contract extension this offseason.

The NFL found itself in a curious situation back in January, when some internet sleuths realized the league actually predicted last season’s Super Bowl matchup.

It all stems from a graphic the league posted on social media last September. In that graphic, one player from each team was staring at the Lombardi Trophy. The two players closest to the trophy — and in the center of the graphic — were Drake Maye and Sam Darnold … the two quarterbacks who eventually met in the Super Bowl.

That discovery set the conspiracy theorists off. Did the NFL know the eventual Super Bowl matchup beforehand? Did the league orchestrate those two teams playing in the big game?

Well, the league is at it again in 2026. And if the league suddenly does have predictive power, it certainly seems like the Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars will square off in the Super Bowl this season.
