Confidence in the Chicago Bears drop

The Chicago Bears suffered a tough loss last week in sloppy, wet conditions at Soldier Field, and the weather certainly slowed their high-powered offense. But Brian Flores’ blitz-happy Minnesota Vikings‘ defense gave Chicago’s offense fits too. The Bears had their chances, and knowing the makeup of this team and head coach Ben Johnson, they’ll learn from the 9 to 3 loss.

That loss, coupled with the Caleb Williams injury, dropped our confidence poll by 20 points this week, down to 74%.

The Bears face another top-tier defensive coordinator this week, but the Philadelphia Eagles’ Vic Fangio is blitzing only 24.2% of the time. When compared to Flores’ 75.9%, this will feel like a drastic difference.

Fangio’s creativity isn’t always up front and will show more on the back end, as he’ll most often show a two-high safety look, then rotate to disguise coverages.

The weather on Monday night in Chicago will be mild, but this defensive matchup is another tough one for Ben Johnson.

With the Bears likely starting Case Keenum at quarterback (although Tyson Bagent is questionable), the spread from our partners at FanDuel Sportsbook is currently Bears +3.5, with the over/under at 42.5.

Chicago’s offense will need to bounce back after a rough outing last week, and they’ll have to do with Johnson calling plays for a back up quarterback for the first time ever. While in Detroit, his QB was always Jared Goff, and this is the first game Williams will be out.

Chicago’s defense made some strides last week, and we’ll see if that was due to the weather and Carson Wentz‘s quarterbacking, or if that was due to some scheme specific and improved defensive coordinating from Dennis Allen.

My guess is a litle bit of both.

On Monday night, Allen’s defense has a tough chalenge ahead of them. They’ll face one of he best running backs in the game, three time Pro Bowler Saquon Barkley, and Philly has a three time Pro Bowler at quarterback in dual hreat Jalen Hurts.
