According to multiple local media sources, Indianapolis Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason has a serious knee injury, having torn multiple knee ligaments following a nasty collision along the sidelines after last night’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots had ended in a 13-13 tie:
The 4th-year Colts special teams coordinator’s knee seemingly buckled upon impact with players—after being rolled up, and he could be seen writhing in pain on the field along the sidelines. Much to the misfortune of Mason, it’s a classic case of being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Despite the Colts holding their own against the reigning AFC Champions in an exhibition game, unfortunately, it did have the game end on somewhat of a surprising somber note.
It’ll be interesting to see how this impacts Mason’s special teams coaching availability this upcoming season, and whether it could be a situation, where he’s limited more to the press box on game days, with a rehabbing knee, presumably from upcoming ligament repair surgery.
At any rate, we’re thinking about Coach Mason and hoping he makes a quick and full recovery.
