The Indianapolis Colts released their Wednesday practice report, and rookie safety AJ Haulcy (ankle) was able to practice on a limited basis.

Battling a lingering ankle injury, Haulcy has not been able to practice the past couple of weeks, but he could be trending toward making his professional debut against the Baltimore Ravens for the Colts’ regular season opener at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Haulcy’s continued status the next few days of team practice will be telling regarding whether the Colts’ 2026 3rd round pick will have his ankle fully healthy to go in time for Week 1. Otherwise, the medical staff may play it careful, as the NFL season is a marathon, not a sprint.

If Haulcy cannot go, 2nd-year safety Hunter Wohler would be the projected ‘next man up’ starting alongside veteran safety Cam Bynum in the backend of the Colts secondary. Having suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury during last year’s preseason, Wohler would also be making his professional football debut in Week 1.

Otherwise, tight end Drew Ogletree (neck), wide receiver Alec Pierce (heel), and recently acquired center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (illness) were also all limited participants during Wednesday’s practice, along with Haulcy.

It’s worth noting that for the Colts, no one has been ruled out ahead of Sunday’s game, as there theoretically could be players who are injured, but not injured enough yet, to begin the regular season on PUP and miss at least the first 4 games of the upcoming campaign.
