The Celtics have waived guard Dalano Banton, the team confirmed (Twitter link). The news was first reported by Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe (Twitter link).
Banton’s $2.8MM salary for 2026/27 was non-guaranteed, which means Boston won’t incur a cap hit by releasing the five-year NBA veteran.
The Raptors selected Banton, a Toronto native, with the 46th overall pick in the 2021 draft. He spent his first two seasons with his hometown team and has also played for Boston, Portland and the Clippers.
Although Banton spent 2021-2025 in the NBA, he was out of the league for much of ’25/26, primarily suiting up for the G League’s Texas Legends. He appeared in 44 games for the Mavericks’ affiliate, averaging 24.9 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 32.8 minutes per contest, with a shooting line of .438/.321/.799.
Banton signed a 10-day contract with the Clippers in February and another with the Celtics later that month. Boston re-signed him to a two-year deal at the end of the regular season.
Banton, who also spent part of ’23/24 with the Celtics, holds career averages of 6.6 PPG, 2.2 RPG and 2.0 APG in 222 games (14.4 MPG). His shooting line is .401/.303/.732.
