After over a decade on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One consoles, the Call of Duty franchise is finally leaving that generation behind. In a post on social media on Monday, Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, or whatever the game will officially be titled, is not in development for PS4
This ends the debate of when the series will finally move on.
“Not sure where this one started, but it’s not true,” the official Call of Duty account posted. “The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4.”
Rumors of the next game in the series coming to last-gen systems began over the weekend when Call of Duty leaker Alaix said that Modern Warfare 4 was “currently being playtested on PS4″. This post from Activision should pour water on the flames.
And though it doesn’t outright say it’s not in development on Xbox One, either, it’s unlikely they would release it on one system and not the other. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 hasn’t been officially revealed yet, so its name is still unconfirmed. However, all of that is expected to come this summer, likely during the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
What has been confirmed is the fact that Call of Duty will no longer release day and date on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
