The Bulls intend to honor former player and broadcaster Stacey King during the 2026/27 season, following his death in June, the team announced today in a press release.

According to the Bulls, the team’s jerseys for the coming season will feature a band on the upper-left side that reads “King.” The letter I in King will be replaced by a microphone, in a nod to the two decades he spent as a team broadcaster in Chicago. An image of that band can be viewed here.

Additionally, the Bulls will host “Stacey King Celebration Night” when the Thunder visit Chicago on February 4, 2027. That will be the team’s first home game after what would have been King’s 60th birthday on January 29. The Bulls didn’t provide details in today’s announcement about what that celebration will entail, indicating that more information will be released at a later date.

The sixth overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft, King spent his first four-and-a-half professional seasons with the Bulls and was a member of Chicago’s championship teams in 1991, 1992, and 1993.

Following his retirement as a player and a few years coaching in the Continental Basketball Association and the D-League, King joined the Bulls’ local broadcasts. He was initially a studio analyst on the team’s pre- and post-game shows before becoming the Bulls’ lead color commentator.

King passed away just over three months ago at the age of 59.
