Buccaneers at Cowboys Initial Injury Report: Winfield to miss 2-4 weeks

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released their initial injury report Monday ahead of Thursday night’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, and the biggest news involves star safety Antoine Winfield, Jr.

Winfield did not participate due to a rib injury suffered late in Sunday’s 17-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Todd Bowles revealed Monday that Winfield suffered a slight rib fracture and is expected to miss two-to-four weeks, dealing another significant blow to an already banged-up Buccaneers roster.

Winfield has recorded 24 tackles through Tampa Bay’s first four games and remains one of the most versatile and important pieces of Bowles’ defense. His absence will begin Thursday against Dallas and could potentially keep him sidelined for several additional games depending on his recovery.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield also remained out with his dislocated right thumb, while cornerback Benjamin Morrison and linebacker SirVocea Dennis were non-participants. Rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter was limited with a knee injury, while first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. was estimated as a full participant despite groin and shoulder injuries.

For Dallas, cornerback Cobie Durant, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and tackle Drew Shelton were listed as non-participants. Guard Tyler Smith, who has missed the first four games with a thumb injury, was limited as Dallas opened his practice window.

Monday’s participation levels were estimations because Tampa Bay conducted a walkthrough.
