Cooper appeared in court on June 4, when he was released on personal recognizance. The 28-year-old has a compliance hearing and a disposition hearing scheduled for the morning on June 8, according to the court’s docket.
“We are aware of the matter and are gathering more information,” the Broncos said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports.
Cooper was drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft and the former Ohio State prospect blossomed into a star at the next level. He has been a key piece opposite Nik Bonitto in what is arguably the league’s best defense, breaking out in 2023 with 8.5 sacks.
It was enough to earn Cooper a four-year, $60 million extension from the team.
