Aug. 7 has not been a good day for Denver Broncos defensive end Matt Henningsen.

That date last year saw Henningsen sustain a season-ending torn Achilles tendon during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers, costing him the entire 2025 season. Then, exactly one year later on Friday, Henningsen tore his other Achilles tendon according to Mike Klis of 9News.

Henningsen, 27, was carted off the field at practice while looking visibly emotional, per the Denver Post’s Luca Evans.

The unfortunate diagnosis came hours later, with Henningsen all but certain to miss a second straight season after previously battling for a roster spot.

The Broncos drafted Henningsen out of Wisconsin in the sixth round of the 2022 overall draft. He would go on to play all 17 games in both his rookie and sophomore seasons, earning a part-time role on defense and special teams. The 2024 season saw him spend the entire year on the Broncos’ practice squad, with no regular-season appearances.

Across his career, Henningsen has 40 total tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack.
