After ending their Week 5 trip to the desert on a high note with a 45-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals, the Detroit Lions are back in action this week, this time hosting the Green Bay Packers for a Week 7 divisional matchup. Ahead of Sunday’s game, myself and my good friend Meko Scott are back with a new episode of “Before the Roar,” where we discuss everything you need to know before Sunday afternoon.
We jump into Packers quarterback Jordan Love and the high-flying passing attack Green Bay has showcased through 6 games. Can the Lions’ defense build on what was a strong performance in Arizona against a Packers team that loves to push the ball downfield? And will the Lions’ defensive line continue to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks?

On the defensive side of the ball, we break down some of the changes for Green Bay under new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, including the uptick in blitzing linebackers and defensive backs. From there, we talk about the strength of the Packers’ defense—their safety duo of Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams. If Lions offensive coordinator Drew Petzing and quarterback Jared Goff want to continue taking deep shots in the passing game, those two will always need to be accounted for. And as we know, the best way to do that is through a healthy dose of running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
