After trying to make her mark in the industry one film at-a-time, Anjali Anand has finally bagged the role of a leading lady. She will now be seen as the female lead in ‘Dhamaal 4’ opposite Riteish Deshmukh. However, with the big break the actress has also been at the receiving end of a lot of hate and backlash.
Fat shamed in Dhamaal 4
Right from her first project, Anjali has often been stereotyped for her body and frame. The actress has often been subjected to body shaming and fat shaming. And, the trailer of ‘Dhamaal 4’ saw many body shaming jokes aimed at the actress. For the audience, this comes as a hypocritical move as Anjali has always stood up tall against being stereotyped in the industry.
Justifies stance
So for her to be a part of the project now ridiculing her onscreen, the audience wasn’t ready to take it lightly. Justifying her stance of taking the project that ridicules women with a certain weight, Anjali says that she still gets trolled in real life despite proving herself. “People often say that to me, that how can you do a film like this, when you are so vocal and stand against people making fun of somebody,” she told Indian Express.
Can’t get cast in Alpha
“But this is the society, people are still making fun of me after I have proven myself. People are still trolling me online. Until society changes, scripts won’t change,” she said. The ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ actress said that she is not delusional and wouldn’t expect to be cast in a film like – Alpha.
“I will be delusional to think I should be cast in Alpha. I don’t look like an Alpha, I will get films based on how I look, and this will continue until people’s thinking changes, and directors think beyond. Why will they cast me in a film that people will not come to see?” she further added.
