In Week 5, the New Orleans Saints will host the undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Caesars Superdome.
These two teams first faced one another way back on Oct. 13, 1968, when New Orleans defeated Minnesota 20-17 in Tulane Stadium.

Sunday’s matchup will mark the 38th meeting between the two, including the postseason. The Saints and Vikings have met five times in the playoffs, with perhaps their most memorable meeting coming on Jan. 24, 2010, in the NFC Championship game at the Superdome. In a thrilling overtime battle, New Orleans defeated Minnesota 31-28 on Garrett Hartley’s 40-yard field goal, sending the Saints to Miami for Super Bowl XLIV, where they would go on to capture the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship.
The two teams have continued to produce memorable postseason moments, including their meeting in the 2017 NFC Divisional round, which ended with the famous “Minneapolis Miracle,” when Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs scored on a 61-yard touchdown reception as time expired.
The Saints enter this matchup with a 1-3 record, looking to rebound from their embarrassing loss on Monday Night Football to the Atlanta Falcons. A victory over an undefeated Minnesota team would provide a significant boost for New Orleans as they look to gain back some ground with fans and in the NFC standings.
Meanwhile, Minnesota enters the matchup with a perfect 4-0 record and will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive. The Vikings have gotten off to a strong start this season and will present another challenge for a Saints team hoping to turn its season around.

Sunday’s matchup will also be a special occasion for the Saints organization and its fans, as legendary quarterback Drew Brees will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor. During his 15 seasons in New Orleans, Brees became the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes while earning 12 Pro Bowl selections with the Saints and becoming one of the most beloved figures in franchise history.
In a fitting tribute, Brees will also be in the broadcast booth for Sunday’s matchup, serving as FOX’s color analyst.
Kickoff is set for noon CT, and the game will be broadcast on FOX, with Adam Amin (play-by-play), Drew Brees (color analyst) and Kristina Pink (sideline reporter) on the call.
