The Seattle Seahawks played their most complete game of the season last Sunday, routing the Kansas City Chiefs 20-3 behind efficient offense and a masterful defensive performance. They did not, however, come away unscathed in the NFL’s fine book.
Unsurprisingly, edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu was docked some money after he was penalized for a horse-collar tackle on Patrick Mahomes. Nwosu was held on the same play, so there were offsetting penalties called and a replayed down. On the next snap, Derick Hall had a crunching strip-sack on the Chiefs quarterback, but neither Nwosu nor Jarran Reed could recover the loose ball, and Mahomes somehow recovered his own fumble to preserve Kansas City’s eventual field goal. Rumor has it that Mike Tirico is still saying, “STILL OUT!” to this day.
Horse-collar tackles are among the offenses that the NFL has deemed suspension worthy for repeat offenders. If Nwosu commits two more horse-collar penalties this year, he will serve an automatic one-game ban.
No other Seahawks were fined. The immediate greater worry for Nwosu is his availability for Monday night against the Chicago Bears, as he’s listed as doubtful for the game.
