The Thunder have waived two-way player Otega Oweh, the team announced in a press release.
Oweh, 23, was selected 41st overall in June’s draft after starring in college at Kentucky. The 6’4″ shooting guard earned a second-team All-SEC spot after averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals on .465/.333/.731 shooting splits in 36 games as a senior for the Wildcats (32.8 minutes per contest).
Oweh, who hit one of the most memorable buzzer-beaters in this year’s NCAA tournament, underwent season-ending surgery to address a ruptured right Achilles tendon 10 days ago. He suffered the major lower leg injury during Oklahoma City’s preseason win against Indiana on October 12.
The Thunder needed to create a two-way opening after agreeing to terms on a two-way deal with Micah Peavy, a 2025 second-round pick who spent his rookie season with the Pelicans. The former Georgetown wing was traded to Memphis in September and was cut by the Grizzlies on Monday.
