San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner was fined twice for a total of $65,673 for two hits on Washington Commanders tight end Chig Okonkwo during their Week 6 Monday night matchup. The 49ers won the game, 23-17.
The first fine issued to Warner was $17,911 for a hit on a defenseless player. During the game, officials initially called that penalty on the field but later withdrew the flag. After reviewing the video, the NFL obviously felt otherwise and levied the fine.

Warner was also fined $47,762 for impermissible use of the helmet, initiating contract with Okonwko by leading with his head. However, that penalty was not called by the officials during the game. The amount of the fine constitutes a second such offense under NFL rules.
Including the two fines issued on Saturday, Warner has now been punished for four hits this season. After the 49ers’ 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, Warner was fined $23,882 for illegal use of his helmet against Trey McBride. Additionally, he received a $17,911 fine for a hip drop tackle.
If the NFL disciplines Warner two more times for hits on a defenseless player, he will receive a one-game suspension. He could also draw a one-game ban if he gets called for two more hip drop tackles this season.

A four-time First Team All-Pro selection, Warner has 58 tackles in the 49ers’ first six games this season. He has also registered 3 forced fumbles, 1 tackle for loss and 3 passes defended.
At 6-0, San Francisco is one of the NFL’s three undefeated teams going into Week 7. The 49ers face the Atlanta Falcons (2-4) on Sunday, while the Minnesota Vikings (5-0) play the Indianapolis Colts (2-4) and the Kansas City Chiefs (5-0) match up with the Seattle Seahawks (3-3).
