The New Orleans Saints have announced the additions of WR Kevin Austin Jr. and TE Treyton Welch to the practice squad. After both made the Saints’ initial 53-man roster, the two players were waived, making room for new signings, and are now brought back after clearing the wire.

Austin Jr. has appeared in 16 total games with New Orleans, eight in both 2024 and 2025. The wideout from Notre Dame has managed 24 receptions for nearly 300 yards and a lone touchdown since entering the league.

Welch, a rookie out of the University of Wyoming, completed the 2026 preseason with four receptions and 25 receiving yards. The 6’4″, Minnesota native is used primarily as a blocking TE but uses his height and athleticism to attack smaller defenders.

New Orleans now has four WRs and two TEs on its practice squad grouping. As it currently stands, the Saints have just four wideouts on its active roster, so it is completely plausible that one if not both of these players see the field at some point this year for the team, especially with how persistent the injury bug has been throughout the offseason.
