Free agent swingman Javonte Green has agreed to return to the Pistons on a one-year, $3.95MM contract, sources tell Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link).
Detroit held Green’s Non-Bird rights after initially signing him to a one-year, minimum-salary contract last August. Those rights give the team the ability to sign him for up to 120% of his minimum salary. That will work out to $3,943,679.
Green, who will turn 33 later in July, is a journeyman who has appeared in 345 regular season games for Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Cleveland, and Detroit since making his NBA debut seven years ago. He was an undrafted free agent who played overseas in Spain, Italy, and Germany before getting a chance from the Celtics in 2019.
Although Green had bounced around the league in recent years, he fit in beautifully with the Pistons, becoming the only player on the roster to appear in all 82 games in 2025/26.
A versatile defender who stands 6’5″, Green contributed 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 17.6 minutes per contest, posting a solid .447/.381/.840 shooting line, with nearly 60% of his field goal attempts coming from beyond the arc.
The Pistons have now agreed to re-sign Green and Kevin Huerter so far this offseason while also reaching deals to bring in Isaiah Joe and John Collins and drafting Ebuka Okorie. Veteran forward Tobias Harris is departing the team in free agency, while Isaiah Stewart and Marcus Sasser are reportedly being traded.
Green will have Early Bird rights when he returns to free agency in 2027 unless he’s traded during the season, in which case he’d revert to a Non-Bird player. A player who re-signs on a one-year deal with his previous team is typically awarded the right to veto a trade so he can avoid that scenario, though it’s possible the Pistons will ask Green to waive that right as part of their agreement.
