The Hornets are waiving forward Tosan Evbuomwan, reports Marc Stein of The Stein Line (Twitter link).
Evbuomwan, 25, opened last season on a two-way contract with the Knicks. He signed a two-way deal with Charlotte in February after being waived by New York in January and finished the season with the Hornets.
The 6’8″ forward has made 50 career regular season appearances at the NBA level for four teams, but he played extremely sparingly last season, logging just eight total minutes in five outings for the Knicks and then not playing at all for the Hornets.
However, Evbuomwan did play a key role for the Hornets’ G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, during the club’s run to an NBAGL championship in the spring. He was named the G League Finals Most Valuable Player after contributing 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals in the clinching game.
Evbuomwan’s two-way deal covered two seasons, but the Hornets will open up that slot ahead of the new league year. The team also has big man PJ Hall on a two-year, two-way deal, while its third two-way player, Antonio Reeves, is headed to free agency. Charlotte reportedly agreed to a two-way contract with rookie free agent Michael Ajayi after he went undrafted on Wednesday.
