The Brooklyn Nets are acquiring Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft from the Timberwolves in a three-team deal also involving the Chicago Bulls, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday.
The Bulls are landing Nic Claxton from the Nets in the deal, and the Timberwolves are adding the No. 33 pick from Brooklyn, Charania adds.
Randle, a three-time all-star and two-time All-NBA forward, joins the Nets after two seasons in Minnesota. He averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and five assists on 48.1 per cent shooting in 79 games this past season.
Moving on from Randle frees up tremendous cap space for the Timberwolves, as he’s owed north of $33 million in 2026-27. They now have the flexibility to retain trade deadline acquisition Ayo Dosunmu, who is set to hit free agency.
The Nets now own two first-round picks (No. 6, No. 28) in Tuesday’s draft.
The Bulls add a talented young centre in Claxton. The 27-year-old averaged 11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 blocks in 69 games this past season. In 2022-23, Claxton finished ninth in Defensive Players of the Year voting.
