It’s always nice to be rewarded for a job well done – yes, that’s even the case for NFL athletes.

Following a successful week of OTAs for San Francisco and perfect attendance from the 49ers players, coach Kyle Shanahan and the team’s coach announced on Wednesday they would cancel next week’s mandatory minicamp – the phase of training this week was considered voluntary.
In addition to the team’s strong week and attendance, San Francisco’s grueling travel schedule this season might have played some part in the decision, as well.
The 49ers will travel more than 38,000 miles this season – the most of any team in the NFL – as they not only fly to Australia to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 but also head to Mexico in Week 11 to square off against the Minnesota Vikings.

The decision to cancel next week’s training will give the team about 50 days before the start of training camp at the SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara on July 23.
