The Tennessee Titans released veteran defensive tackle Jordan Elliott earlier this week. The complete details are now available. A to Z Sports and Easton Freeze reported Elliott allegedly threatened a teammate (reportedly JC Latham) with gun violence, even showing intent before the situation was calmed. Unacceptable stuff. Naturally, the Titans released Elliott even though head coach Robert Saleh vouched for him to receive a future opportunity elsewhere during Wednesday’s presser.
Elliott was playing quality football as a rotational defensive lineman after signing a two-year contract with the team in free agency. Saleh, Aaron Whitecotton, and Mike Borgonzi must deal with the fallout. We’ve identified three Titans players who could help the defensive line replace Elliott.

Nose tackle Nazir Stackhouse helped replace Elliott in Sunday’s Week 6 win over the Colts. He served as the primary interior run stopper behind Jeffery Simmons and John Franklin-Myers. Remember, that is essentially the role Elliott was playing. The Titans claimed Stackhouse off waivers from the Green Bay Packers after final cuts. He played well as a big-bodied space eater.
The Titans brought Elliott to Tennessee as a free agent this past offseason partially because he played for Coach Saleh before. Understanding his system is vital to the success of the scheme. Well, following Elliott’s departure, the only Titans interior defender on the roster who has played for Saleh before is veteran DT Solomon Thomas.

When the Titans ruled out Elliott for Sunday’s game versus the Colts, they made Timmy Horne a gameday call-up. The four-year pro ended up playing a sizable 25 snaps. Horne is listed as being 312 pounds via the team’s official website; he’s a more traditional nose tackle who can play a similar role to Elliott. With the Titans having an open spot on the 53-man roster following Elliott’s release, promoting Horne from the practice squad would make sense.
