The opportunity for a first solo win on the PGA Tour was great.
The potential for a million-dollar payday was great.
But something else was occupying Andrew Novak’s mind on Saturday night at Vidanta Vallarta golf course.
The University of Miami football team was playing the University of North Carolina, and he’s a UM guy.
“Yeah, we’ve got Canes-Tar Heels,” Novak said after his third round. “I’ll be chirping Ben, for sure. [Ben Griffin, who played college golf at UNC.] Spread’s like 13 and a half, I think — that’s a little scary. Halloween, night game. I don’t know. ACC always scares me, weird stuff happens. I don’t trust ACC refs — they’re terrible at their job. Hopefully we roll them, but we’ll see.
“It’s going to keep me nervous for the next three hours probably.”
It was close. North Carolina led in the fourth quarter, before Miami won 38-35.
With that, here are the money payouts for the Vidanta World Mexico Open. The total purse is $6 million.
