TCU football is moving closer to its 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 29. As the Countdown to Kickoff continues, we’ll highlight a former Horned Frog whose jersey number coincided with the number of days remaining until the opener. At No. 36 is former TCU running back Kenneth Davis!

Davis played in 34 games over four seasons and rushed for 2,994 yards and 23 touchdowns for his TCU career. He missed all but one game during his senior season in 1985 to serve a suspended after confessing he received cash payments from boosters. Despite that, Davis was a second-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 1986 NFL Draft. Davis ran for 3,513 yards, caught 135 passes for 878 yards and scored 32 touchdowns in the NFL.

A regular contributor in each of his first two seasons at TCU, Davis made a big leap his junior year. He carried the ball 211 times for 1,611 yards and 15 touchdowns (all career highs) while adding two touchdown receptions. Davis earned All-Southwest Conference and All-American honors while finishing fifth in the Heisman vote that season. TCU won eight of its first nine games that season, but ended the year 8-4 with a loss in the Bluebonnet Bowl.

Davis played in 131 NFL games and made 23 starts over nine seasons, three with the Packers and six with the Buffalo Bills. His best stretch came in the early 1990s, when he posted back-to-back seasons of 600-plus rushing yards while combining for 10 touchdown runs from 1991-92. He made four Super Bowl appearances with the Bills, who fell to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV and the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI. Buffalo then lost to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXVII and the Cowboys again in Super Bowl XXVIII.

Davis is a member of the 1996 TCU Athletic Hall of Fame class.
