The 16th Presidents Cup tees off this week at famed Medinah Country Club in Illinois, located approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The biennial event is yet another illustrious feather in Medinah’s host-course cap, adding to a resume that already includes three U.S. Opens (1949, 1975, 1990), two PGA Championships (1999, 2006), and a Ryder Cup (2012).

Heading into this week, the U.S. has a dominant 13-1-1 record over the Internationals since the event’s first playing in 1994. The Americans’ lone loss was the 1998 edition at Royal Melbourne GC, which the International team won by a score of 20.5-11.5. In 2003, the Presidents Cup was also famously tied with a score of 17-17 at Fancourt Hotel and Country Club in South Africa.

The Presidents Cup is comprised of two teams — the U.S. team and the International team — both of which include 12 players, six of whom qualified automatically and six who were selected by each team’s respective captain. The U.S. team is captained by Brandt Snedeker while the Internationals are led by Geoff Ogilvy. Unlike the Ryder Cup, which pits the U.S. against Europe and is played over three days, the Presidents Cup features the U.S. team against players from the rest of the world, excluding Europe, and is played over four days.
