There’s been a lot of speculation this offseason about whether the Eagles would bring Zach Ertz back, especially given the lack of depth in the tight end room. After learning that Dallas Goedert will miss several weeks following an MCL sprain, the reunion with Ertz is happening!
This always made a lot of sense, even before Goedert was sidelined. The team placed rookie TE Eli Stowers on IR at the start of the season, and Grant Calcaterra was put on IR at the end of training camp. With just Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins left, the TE room gets an immediate boost by adding Ertz.

The former Eagles draft pick has spent his time away from Philly with the Cardinals and Commanders, and has been a consistent factor in the redzone — regardless of the overall effectiveness of those offenses. Ertz is also just 11 receptions away from breaking Harold Carmichael’s franchise record (589) in Philadelphia to become the team’s leader all-time in catches.
Ertz has shown the City of Philadelphia and the Eagles nothing but love since he left several years ago, and has grown emotional several times when talking about the appreciation he has for the team. This reunion is the perfect way for him to finish out his career, while also being an instant contributor once he’s acclimated and brought up to speed.
