With LIV Golf’s season complete (albeit with some last-second alterations), the league now looks to the future. Since it was announced in the spring that Saudi Arabia’s PIF would no longer invest in LIV, there have been many questions on how — or if — the league will continue into the future.
With so much uncertainty surrounding the future of the league, speculation about where the league’s biggest stars will compete in 2027 has run rampant. With a roster of stars that includes former major champions and Ryder Cup heroes, there is plenty of talent in the league that may be looking for playing opportunities elsewhere in the future.
On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar, predicting the landing places for two of the biggest names in Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau was a hot topic. Check out the discussion in the video below.
It’s no secret that DeChambeau has commitments in golf outside of traditional competition (see: Youtube). And for Subpar co-host Colt Knost, that venture makes sense as the focus for him next season if LIV ceases to exist.
Drew Stoltz echoed that sentiment, adding that if LIV does end up finding funding for their “2.0” vision, he sees DeChambeau sticking it out on the upstart tour.
“I think Bryson might stick around,” Stoltz said. “If there is a LIV 2.0, I think they are gonna give him half the league in equity. And he might just want to be the show.”
As for Rahm, the waters are a little more murky. With the PGA Tour shifting their competitive model in 2028, there is a huge incentive to qualify for the “Champions Series” events by that time. However, the only way to feasibly do that is by getting away from LIV as soon as possible and building his resume to qualify for the top-tier events in 2028 — namely through playing on the DP World Tour.
“I think Jon will be DP World Tour next year,” Knost said. “And then hopefully some PGA Tour events here and there … I just don’t think it would go over well with the other players if they just immediately let him roll into the PGA Tour in ’27.”
