Appearing on NBA Today in the wake of LeBron James‘ decision to sign with the Sixers (Twitter video link), ESPN’s Shams Charania confirmed that the Cavaliers are interested in free agent forward Mario Hezonja and added the Warriors to the list of suitors for the Croatian veteran.
Hezonja, 31, is a former lottery pick who has spent the past six years overseas following a five-year NBA stint with Orlando, New York and Cleveland. Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line previously reported that some of the same teams pursuing James were interested in Hezonja as well, specifically identifying Cleveland as one of those clubs.
Here’s more from around the Western Conference:
- The four-year, $100MM rookie scale extension Dyson Daniels signed with Atlanta last year is often cited as a comparable for Thunder guard Cason Wallace, according to Stein and Fischer (Substack link). However, some rival executives believe Wallace, who’s eligible for his own rookie scale deal this offseason, could do better than that, since he provides “greater offensive punch” than Daniels, Stein and Fischer write.
- Timberwolves guards Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball are organizing a trip to Paris so the team can work out with center Rudy Gobert, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link). Krawczynski isn’t sure how many of the Wolves will be able to attend, but says the goal is to try and get as much of the roster together as possible.
- Kings lottery pick Darius Acuff Jr. recently spoke to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints about a number of topics in an interview. “Honestly, it all comes down to my hunger to win,” Acuff replied when asked how he could lead the team going forward. “I hate losing. Any time I am on the court, it’s not about my stats or any of that. My focus is only on winning. After Summer League, it’s all about building chemistry with my new teammates, getting in the gym, and charting a path to success. I think that will go a long way in achieving our goals. All the outside noise of what we will be like won’t matter because inside the gym, we’ll know what we are capable of. I think that will go a long way.”
