Frances Tiafoe completed a breakout week at Halle on Sunday, earning his third consecutive Top 10 win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Taylor Fritz in 67 minutes to become the first American champion at the German grass-court event.
Tiafoe, who saved three match points in his quarterfinal win over Felix Auger-Aliassime, snapped a seven-match losing streak against Fritz in the pair’s first meeting since their 2024 US Open semifinal.
“Too good, you played great today, man, and I’m super happy for you,” Fritz told him after the final. “As much as I don’t like you right now, you’re one of my best friends and I’m super happy for you to get the title.”

In the fourth all-American final on the ATP Tour in 2026, Tiafoe was quick out of the blocks and never looked back. He played like a man on a mission, landing 74 percent of his first serves and dropping just seven points behind serve as he claimed the biggest title of his career and his fourth ATP crown overall.
Tiafoe snapped a four-match losing streak in ATP finals and became the seventh American man to capture an ATP 500 title since the series was introduced in 2009.
With the victory, Tiafoe improved to 4-8 in ATP finals and 16-43 lifetime against the Top 10.
“I lost a lot of finals in my career, this is big,” said Tiafoe, who quoted scripture (Romans 8:18) after his victory. “A few weeks ago, I had one of the hardest losses of my career at the French Open, and to be able to come back, have a good week and win here – my biggest title, and against the players I beat along the way…
“It’s a huge testament to that goal, and something I’ve been living by – staying in my faith.”
Working with Mark Kovacs as his head coach since the end of last year, Tiafoe has gradually rediscovered his form. He will return to the Top 20 on Monday at No.19.
“We’ve been pushing since the end of last year,” Tiafoe said as he thanked his team. “And we’ve only been going to the moon, as we say. Let’s keep going. Let’s enjoy this one, then get ready for SW19 in a week.”
