The news of Alia Bhatt joining ‘Tumbbad 2’ has left social media divided. While many are calling it an epic crossover, many feel the film’s ‘soul’ will be now be ruined. Alia has joined Tumbbad along side Sohum Shah and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. “A new chapter unfolds. Welcome to Tumbbad, Alia Bhatt,” Shah wrote welcoming Bhatt.
Alia will reportedly shoot for 20 days and has a pivotal role in the film’s biggest twist. The ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ actress said that she was charmed by the immersive nature of the first part of the film – ‘Tumbbad’ and the film stayed with her even after watching.
Alia expresses excitement
“Tumbbad has stayed with me ever since I first watched it. Very few films create a world that feels this original and immersive, and even fewer continue to grow in people’s imagination years after they’ve released. That’s what makes this opportunity so exciting. To now become a part of that world is incredibly special,” Alia said in an statement.
“I’m looking forward to working with Sohum and Nawaz, two artists I’ve admired for a long time, and to exploring a character that belongs to a story as rich, mysterious and unforgettable as Tumbbad. I can’t wait for audiences to experience what we’re creating together,” she further added.
However, as soon as Sohum Shah shared the announcement, many were quick to express their disappointment over Alia joining in. “Tumbbad became a cult classic because of its storytelling, vision, and the incredible work of artists who weren’t backed by Bollywood’s biggest camps. As a fan, it’s disappointing to see such a unique franchise now leaning towards mainstream star power,” wrote a user.
