The Baltimore Ravens re-signed undrafted rookie cornerback Lardarius Webb Jr. – son of longtime Ravens defensive back Lardarius Webb – to their practice squad on Thursday, per a team announcement.

Webb, 23, originally signed with the Ravens this spring as an undrafted rookie out of Wake Forest. He was one of several young cornerbacks to flash in training camp, with one particularly memorable pass breakup in the end zone that brought the rest of the defense onto the field in celebration.

Webb played in all three preseason games with time at outside and slot cornerback. His 5-foot-9, 168-pound frame struggled to hold up against the run, but he looked confident and comfortable in coverage. He flashed on special teams during last Friday’s win over the Commanders, making two tackles and forcing a fumble. Though that was not enough to make the initial 53-man roster, he will still have a chance to contribute this year from the practice squad.

The Ravens released veteran cornerback Amani Oruwariye from their practice squad to make room for Webb’s return. The 30-year-old offers solid depth on special teams – he did so in Baltimore last year – but Webb is a younger player with more appealing developmental curve.

The Ravens also formalized the signing of veteran offensive lineman Chuma Edoga to their practice squad on Thursday. Undrafted rookie center Nick Dawkins was released in a corresponding move, leaving the team without a third center.

Starting right guard Vega Ioane said after practice (via The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec) that he took snaps at center in case of emergency. The first-round pick snapping the ball in the regular season would certainly be a five-alarm fire in Baltimore, so Dawkins could find his way back to the practice squad in the near future.
