Rams-49ers Thursday night game thread

The Los Angeles Rams “host” the San Franciso 49ers in Week 1 of the NFL season in Melbourne, Australia, in the first ever NFL game to be featured Down Under. This game is on Netflix, so you may want to check out our how to watch guide!

The Seattle Seahawks (1-0) won the first game of the season to sit atop the NFC West. The Rams and 49ers now have the chance to punch each other up as the winner of tonight’s game will be 1-0 plus a division win. This is about as big an opening game as can be for SF and L.A.

Yes, the Rams have studs, we’ll get to that, but don’t count out the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers come in with future Hall of Famer, Mike Evans, and should have its heart and soul of the defense back with Fred Warner. Christian McCaffrey will have the eyes of countless fantasy owners, bettors and 49ers fans everywhere as everyone wants to know if he can handle his workload in 2026.

The Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy has continued to be anything but irrelevant as a starting quarterback in the NFL. He’ll look to continue to prove he’s a top quarterback, and that he and Shanahan are a top duo in the league.

L.A. may have the best head coach in the NFL with Sean McVay, but as mentioned above, the Rams also have stars and studs to match their exciting HC.

Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie, Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, just to name a few. Aaron Donald is back with the team, but will not be with the Rams today.

Donald not suiting up may be disappointing, but it also shouldn’t be a reason the Rams lose if that’s the outcome.

How the Rams traveled to Australia, however, will be discussed and studied whether the team wins or not. Travel is always a part of the NFL, but this game being in Australia makes the travel discussion more interesting than ever.

The 49ers took the approach of getting to Australia about a week before the game, the Rams took the approach of getting to Melbourne about a day before the game. Everyone wants to see how these teams look.
