Comedian Pranit More has told the Supreme Court that a controversial video linked to the ₹370 biryani row was uploaded by his public relations team without his approval.

The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and the Maharashtra and Haryana governments on More’s plea seeking to club the FIRs registered against him in connection with the controversy.

During the hearing, More’s counsel said the comedian had apologised on all forums, including before the National Commission for Women (NCW), and was ready to face trial. The plea seeks to club the FIR registered in Gurugram with the one registered in Maharashtra, as both cases arise from the same incident.

The controversy began after a video from More’s stand-up show in Gurugram went viral. During the performance, an audience member, Himanshu Jangra, made a remark about spending ₹370 on chicken biryani during a date and expecting sexual intimacy in return. More, who was hosting the show, was seen laughing at the remark. The clip later triggered widespread criticism on social media.

According to More’s counsel, the comedian deleted the video after becoming aware of the seriousness of the controversy and before an FIR was registered. His lawyer told the court that More was travelling at the time and that his PR team had uploaded the video without seeking his approval.

More and Jangra later issued public apologies following the backlash. The controversy also led to FIRs being registered in Maharashtra and Haryana, with the National Commission for Women taking cognisance of the matter.

The Supreme Court has now sought responses from the Centre and the two state governments on More’s plea for clubbing of the FIRs. The matter will be considered further after the responses are filed.
