The New England Patriots have ruled out running back TreVeyon Henderson for Wednesday night’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Henderson has been dealing with an ankle injury throughout the preseason and has been sidelined from practice for two weeks. The move doesn’t come as a complete surprise, but the second-year back did travel with New England for the road game, leaving open the possibility of a last-minute change.
With no Henderson, veteran running back Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to see an increased workload against the Seahawks. Stevenson and Henderson were projected to once again share backfield duties, but now Stevenson will be joined in the backfield by third-string RB Corey Kiner.
This will be the first game that Henderson has missed in his career. Last year as a rookie, he played in all 17 games and finished the year with 911 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Henderson added 221 yards and another touchdown on 35 receptions.
