Timberwolves assistant Max Lefevre has taken a job overseas, having accepted the head coaching position for Paris Basketball, the French team announced today (via Twitter). Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews reported earlier this morning that the two sides were nearing an agreement.

Lefevre, who was a graduate assistant, director of basketball operations, and director of player development for various college programs from 2014-19, joined the Timberwolves as a player development associate and video coordinator in 2019. He has been with the club since then and was elevated to a full-fledged assistant coaching role on Chris Finch‘s staff in 2024.

Lefevre’s departure will create another opening under Finch on a staff that also lost lead assistant Micah Nori to the Trail Blazers earlier this offseason.

Paris Basketball had been eyeing a handful of NBA assistants and former head coaches this offseason as they sought a replacement for Julius Thomas. Dave Joerger and Jay Triano were said to be among the candidates who received interest from the EuroLeague club, but Triano is joining Nori’s new staff in Portland while Joerger is considered likely to end up in Denver.

Lefevre will be tasked with leading Paris Basketball to a bounce-back season in the EuroLeague. After earning a playoff spot in 2024/25, the team finished with a 15-23 regular season record in 2025/26. Paris did finish second in the domestic (LNB Élite) standings this past season, losing to AS Monaco for the championship in France’s top basketball league.
