The Green Bay Packers officially announced on Monday that the team had extended linebacker Isaiah McDuffie to a one-year contract that will keep McDuffie on the roster through the 2027 season. Last year, McDuffie served as the team’s “starting” Sam linebacker and as the Packers’ special teams captain. McDuffie should continue to contribute as a special teamer in 2026, but he will more than likely be a full-time backup linebacker as the team transitions to a 3-4 defense.
Here’s the cap breakdown for McDuffie moving forward:

The Packers can also move off the McDuffie deal with just $750,000 in dead cap before June 1st in 2027, since only $1.5 million (in the form of a signing bonus) was guaranteed on McDuffie’s one-year extension. Because that money comes in the form of a signing bonus, it’s prorated over both the 2026 and 2027 seasons. So if the team wants to move on from McDuffie next year, they’ll save $4.4 million in cap space, despite the extension.
